New Pedestrian Safety Regulations in Abu Dhabi

Drivers are always reminded to yield to pedestrians in these areas, even if there are no designated crosswalks. Within the framework of regulations, pedestrian safety should be prioritized. The traffic control direction and patrol service urged drivers to exercise caution, reduce speed on all roads, especially when entering pedestrian zones, and avoid detours. It has been emphasized that ensuring pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility for both drivers and pedestrians.

The directive also clarified that drivers who do not yield to pedestrians in specially designated areas will be fined 500 dirhams and receive six penalty points in accordance with point 69, since residential areas, schools, and hospitals are considered pedestrian zones even without designated crossings. The General Police Command of Abu Dhabi has urged drivers to give priority to pedestrian crossings in residential areas, schools, and hospitals on all roads with a limited speed of 40 km/h.
